Manifested Bentley, Part 4.

Previous Part 1. Previous Part 2. Previous Part 3.
"I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." -Lucifer

"And we are pressing in for that Romans 1:4 anointing."

-Todd Bentley

As I noted in earlier installments, Todd Bentley, amongst other notables, teaches that we can attain divinity or god-like status in the here-and-now. According to this theology, the Romans 1:4 anointing is to be "declared to be the Son of God." Bentley himself defines these teachings: "It's called the Manifestation of the Sons of God." This ties in very closely with the "New Breed" teachings of Paul Cain, Chuck Pierce, Peter Wagner, Ryan Wyatt, and others - most of whom flocked to Bentley's so-called "Lakeland Outpouring." Cain spoke about it while he was there. Bob Jones shared the platform with Bentley at the 8/8/08 event at Morningstar. The same meeting that Bentley references the "Romans 1:4" anointing. Just so we are all on the same page.

A recent article on Jones' website elaborates about this "new breed" concept and ties it in with the "Romans 1:4 anointing."

Recently, Bob had a vision of the new breed coming forth. There is a coming forth of the NEW BREED! They are not old and they are not young. They will come forth in the Spirit of Holiness. (Rom 1:4 And [as to His divine nature] according to the Spirit of holiness was openly designated the Son of God in power [in a striking, triumphant and miraculous manner] by His resurrection from the dead, even Jesus Christ our Lord (the Messiah, the Anointed One). The Spirit of Holiness coming forth is the divine nature of Christ. (2 Peter 1:4-10) The new breed shall be of the divine nature and will be a friend with God. (John 15:15) The Spirit of holiness coming forth will have resurrection power in it and this power will bring the obedience of what Christ called us to.(Matthew 10:8) Most of the people Bob saw were between the ages of 25 & 40. They will be the first of the new breed which others will immediately begin to follow and they will not fall back. The Spirit of Holiness is different than the Holy Spirit although it works by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of Holiness is the nature of Christ in you coming forth in maturity. Christ formed in you to a new level of maturity. Paul’s prayer will be answered; he travailed until Christ be formed in you. (Galatians 4:19) suffering birth pangs until Christ is formed in us. Those who will walk forth in the Spirit of Holiness will be individuals who will represent Christ in a new level of maturity. These will be the first of the great youth leaders which countless numbers will follow. Christ was the first of the new breed coming forth resurrected by the Spirit of Holiness. This new breed will be motivated by the Spirit of God doing nothing of themselves but only doing what they see the Father doing. (John 5:19)
I cite Jones because in the context of the meeting that Bentley preached at, Jones was also talking about the same thing. Those who teach the Manifested Sons of God doctrine, which include the "new breed" teachings and the "Romans 1:4 annointing" teach that they will be transformed into immortality and not see death, without benefit the rapture or ressurrection. It's a temptation that has plagued man all the way back to the garden of eden. Wanna bite? ---- It is claimed that the 'Manifest Sons of God' will be perfected into their "glorified bodies" prior to Christ's return. That perfection will allow them to subdue the earth for Jesus. Proponents of this doctrine also claim Christians, having a "divine nature," become "gods." They say Christ came into us as a "seed" and grows into a "prophet." Thus Christ does not physically return, but returns within us. -Apologetics Index

  1. The great deception brings to us those who are deceiving us into believing that their word is: The Father never gifts those who's desre is to sell that gift.

  2. Do you know where I can see a copy of the "Resolution #7 of the 1949 General Council of the Assemblies of God" re the Latter Rain beliefs? Is it on the AoG website?

  3. desean,

Sorry for the delay- I've got a technical problem with notification regarding comments.

I seldom reference Resolution #7, because many cite it in stating that the A/G declared Latter Rain teachings as heresy. The A/G has changed greatly, however the statements in that resolution sound as if they could have been written yesterday.

I think this is the entire resolution:

RESOLVED, That we disapprove of those extreme teachings and practices which, being unfounded Scripturally, serve only to break fellowship of like precious faith and tend to confusion and division among the members of the Body of Christ, and be it hereby known that this 23rd General Council disapproves of the so-called, " New Order of the Latter Rain" , to wit:

    1. The overemphasis relative to imparting, identifying, bestowing or confirming gifts by the laying on of hands and prophesy.

    2. The erroneous teaching that the church is built upon the foundation of present day apostles and prophets.

    3. The extreme teaching as advocated by the " new order" regarding the confession of sin to man and deliverance as practiced, which claims prerogatives to human agency which belong only to Christ.

    4. The erroneous teaching concerning the impartation of the gift of languages as special equipment for missionary service.

    5. The extreme and unscriptural practice imparting or imposing personal leading by the means of utterance.

    6. Such other wrestings and distortions of Scripture, interpretations which are in opposition to teachings and practices generally accepted among us.

Charles Grave's book "Anointing or Apostasy" is an excellent study guide on the Latter Rain and addresses many of the MSoG issues discussed in the Bentley Series.
